As a multi-entrepreneur what inspired you to develop your company? I am Trevion Upshaw. I am an Instagram influencer/clothing designer/music artist/model. I knew I was destined to be someone when I noticed that I really liked shoes. Growing up at like 14 I got my first job just to buy my first pair of air Jordans. They were the thunder 14s. Ever since I was able to buy my first pair of at the time expensive shoes I never looked back and I always had a job and I always worked very hard for whatever it was that I wanted. Now that I’m older I have three main dreams and it’s to create clothing and have a music career , model that’s really what I’m working on at the moment. I’m from Atlanta Georgia I’m 23 years old.
What inspired me to start my company was my passion for fashion. I’ve been obsessed with my outfits for as long as I can remember. With that being the case I decided why not me clothes that I love.
How have your priorities changed from when you first started your journey into entrepreneurship? Yes I would say my priorities have definitely changed. I will say in the beginning of the journey I was very new to it and just thought everything would happen overnight, but as time progressed the inter-perfectionist or critical designer as I would say start it to a emerge. I noticed that it’s not gonna happen overnight, it’s never gonna be that easy. so my approach to it changed and my drive towards entrepreneurship changed, totally.
Knowing what you know now, is there anything you would have done differently when you were first starting out? Knowing what I know now I definitely would have saved way more money than what I had initially saved up for because of the style of clothing that I wanna drop. I just know that what I had at the time was not enough for me to do everything that my imagination wanted to do.
What challenges did you have to overcome at the beginning of your journey? I will say the challenges that I really had to start out with in the beginning were time and cost. I say time because I’m always busy. I’m always doing different projects. I’m always working on something else. I can never just stick to one thing and work on it. I’m always working on multiple things. Cost because this stuff is costly you have to pay for fabrics. You have to pay for machines. You have to pay for shipping. You have to pay for graphic designers, it’s just a lot that comes with it.
What is unique about your business veres any other platform? What I think is unique about my platform is because. I think I know what the youth wants more because I’m a part of the youth. I have that advantage over a lot of other entrepreneurs. If that makes sense, like I’m part of the generation so I know what is in. I know what I really like to see about myself . I want to see my generation as well. I really want to set new trends.
What advice would you give to someone who is trying to become an entrepreneur or work in the industry? Advice that I would give someone that’s trying to be an entrepreneur in the industry would be to never give up. Always have multiple backup plans, not just one. Continue to strive for the best even if you jump out and you fall on your face.
Entrepreneurship is never easy. A lot of people don’t have the capital to bring their business to light. How did you raise funding? I actually worked three jobs to build up enough money for what I wanted to do. I saved up. I’m a really hard worker. I worked 7 days a week trying to see my dream come true. I just want to see my art come to life. I really think about feeding my family more than anything though, so that’s the drive I have behind it.
What strategies did you first use to market your brand ? Well I really didn’t have any strategies besides myself and the power of social media. My brand has already been seen in the swalk video which has over 2 million views so I feel like it’s got a great jump start in terms of reach already.
How do you define success? I define success as waking up in the morning and being able to feel proud of where you’re at in life. I wake up every day very proud of what I’ve accomplished already but I know that there’s still so much more to accomplish. I’m not at the level of success that I would like myself to be on. I want to be somewhere on the Sean Carter level. I’m the type of person who’s never satisfied with what I’ve done or what I’m doing. I always have to try to do better.
What have you enjoyed most about starting your own company? I have enjoyed most about starting my own company is that I got to see how creative I was and I got to see how long the creative process takes and how much stuff can be trashed and scrapped if you are a true artist like you’re never satisfied at the end of the day but at some point it has to come out.
What are the qualities of a good entrepreneur? I think a very good quality of an entrepreneur is to be very punctual and stay timely. I am a procrastinator so I would say you should definitely stay timely if you were trying to be an entrepreneur. Not being timely is the reason for a lot of my errors.
What are you working on now? I’ve just about wrapped up the clothing brand so now my main focus is going ahead and getting into my music. Music is my first passion before anything. I’m going to take more time next year just really thoroughly working on that. I want to see how far I can go with that. There’s no limit to what you can do or how many things you can do.
