Remembering DJ Symplistik: Dr. Tivon Skinner’s Enduring Legacy in Music and Education

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Tivon “DJ Symplistik” Skinner, who left us on June 7th. Dr. Skinner was much more than a celebrated DJ; he was a visionary educator who seamlessly blended his love for music with his passion for empowering youth through education. With an impressive Ph.D. in education, DJ Symplistik was a trailblazer who dedicated his life to making a meaningful impact on the community, particularly through innovative STEM/STEAM programs.

Dr. Skinner’s influence extended far beyond his DJ booth. As the owner of Craft Keepers, his values of hard work, determination, resilience, and consistency shone brightly. His brand gained recognition in prestigious outlets such as Medium, One West Magazine, Grind Magazine, and Digital Buzz. His career was marked by notable performances on platforms like Sirius XM’s “The Joint,” The Fly, and his involvement with Fleet DJs, a collective of top-tier DJs worldwide. But perhaps his most cherished role was working with the scholars of the Osborne Association YES and YAC programs. These young individuals, many of whom had incarcerated parents, found their voices through his guidance, leading to impactful projects like a podcast that fostered familial connections.

DJ Symplistik’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication and heartfelt commitment to bettering society through his unique blend of music and education. His story is one of inspiration, showing how one can follow their passion while making a significant difference in the lives of others. Dr. Tivon Skinner’s life, though tragically cut short, will continue to inspire and illuminate the paths of many. His contributions to both the music and education sectors will be remembered fondly, and his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
