New York based artist, Erwan Alexis, is set to launch his title single “Redlight”, of his upcoming album release

Erwan’s latest single, “Redlight”, transports us into the dark world of the Red Light District. This anti heroic tale examines the complexities of love as a profession and navigates the realizations Erwan faces with a woman who doesn’t need to be “saved”. Unlike many Hollywood depictions of prostitutes, “Pretty Woman”, “True Romance”, “Redlight” tells a different story. Erwan doesn’t seek to rescue the woman, this woman is proud of who she is. The protagonist and escort Scarlet, chooses to work the streets because she is in control. She’s always been. “She isn’t stubborn, there’s no need to change (…) free woman, she don’t need those chains.”

“Redlight” is a story about empathy. It’s about showing our scars and their beauty. Erwan admires her and doesn’t mind loving under red lights. This song is part of a greater story this album tells. One of love, heartbreak, addiction, violence and hope.

“Redlight” is inspired by true events and reflects an unwritten story about the marginalized folk of society. Erwan believes that an artist must carry a message but only when the art feels and sounds good can that message be passed on. From surviving the streets in “Shoulda Coulda” to expressing the desperation of racial injustice in “Freedom Ring”; many songs begin with a conflict but find their resolution in this album. This is the core of Redlight’s message. Out of the darkness must come light. Deep in the dark underworld, there’s a way out. Take a look at our exclusive interview with the rising artist below.

Question: How did the idea for your business come about?

Answer: Even though music is a business, I was born into a family of artists. My mother is a dancer/singer and my father is a musician. This prepared me for my career as a singer and I was bound or destined if you will to follow in their footsteps.

Question: How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?

Answer: Energy. Work ethic. I look for these two qualities first and foremost, I do not need the hottest name engineers or popular producers. I primarily seek people with similar energy and positive outlooks in life. The work ethic and skill are also crucial in achieving excellence and execution of the work.

Question: What three pieces of advice would you give to other children who want to become entrepreneurs?

Answer: Work and work tirelessly. There will be times when you wonder if it is worth it. You will spend your last dollar, you will be exhausted. You must keep working and ignore that little voice that tells you you’ve done enough. It’s never enough !

My second piece of advice is to not get too caught up in the details. Some of us are very keen on getting every single facet of your project or business just right and can waste valuable time. Just make sure to tie your shoelaces and start running! My third one is know what you want. I never allow anything in my career to happen unless it aligns with my purpose, my desires and my vision. We do not have the luxury of learning lessons and giving too many chances in this industry. Go for yours!

Question: If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

Answer: My career has but only just begun! I guess if I had to talk to my younger self, I’d tell him to be patient and to let go of perfectionism. Other than that, 99% of my career is ahead of me.
